The Hidden Heart of La Merced - History and Tradition
"Discover the fascinating history of La Merced and its transformation throughout the centuries."
Available only on Mondays.
The Experience
Before the arrival of the Spanish and the colonial era, the area we know today as Barrio de la Merced was part of a complex network of chinampas (floating gardens) and canals that supplied food to the ancient city of Tenochtitlán.
Despite the changes over the centuries, La Merced preserves traces of its pre-Hispanic past, such as the layout of its streets and the persistence of markets and commercial activities.
This tour is not just a walk-through; it is an immersion into the living history of Mexico City. We invite you to walk among legends, traditions, and the vibrant reality of one of the capital's oldest and most authentic neighborhoods.
